Who We
Are


Jag Media is the student media group of the ºÚÁÏÌìÌà under the direction of the Department of Communication. Jag Media includes The Vanguard newspaper, Due ºÚÁÏÌìÌà magazine, JagTV and WJGR 97.1 The Prowl. All media is student-operated and open to all currently enrolled students regardless of major.


What We Do


Jag Media provides a multimedia learning environment that mirrors professional industry standards and practices to prepare students for placement in media jobs, to enhance the collegiate experience, to provide opportunities for personal growth, to serve as a communication channel for student opinion and inquiry, to educate the student population and to exercise and to develop soft skills necessary in the diverse global multimedia workforce.

To create a professional learning environment that mirrors real-world media standards and practices.

The Vanguard is the official digital-only multimedia student newspaper of the University of ºÚÁÏÌìÌà Alabama, serving the University’s student, staff, faculty and campus community since 1965. The Vanguard is provides a hands-on learning environment and informs the public of campus news and issues.

All staff positions are paid. Students work as editors, reporters, advertisers, and photographers.

Due ºÚÁÏÌìÌà is the lifestyle magazine for the ºÚÁÏÌìÌà campus. Since its founding in 2012, the magazine has strove to capture the true spirit of USA and the Mobile area, with its diverse trends, styles and attitudes. We regularly spotlight art, music, people, destinations, entertainment and events.

 
Students can serve as the editor-in-chief or assistant editor. All article and photography submissions are accepted on a freelance basis.


Our bi-annual publication is targeted to our student body and a community each spring and fall. The magazine is a subsidiary publication of The Vanguard newspaper.

ºÚÁÏÌìÌà 97.1 The Prowl

97.1 The Prowl is the student-run Variety format radio station featuring music and student-produced programming at 97.1 FM.


97.1 The Prowl is a federally licensed, non-commercial low-power station servicing a 15- to 18-mile radius.


We welcome currently enrolled students in every major to participate on and off the air in programming, promotions, news, production, podcasting and marketing. Managerial positions are paid. All other staff work on a volunteer basis.

JagTV features student-produced series and films. It broadcasts on channel 61.1 on the USA cable system throughout the dorms and common places on campus. JagTV is available online on YouTube.


All managerial positions are paid. All other staff work on a volunteer basis. Students work as managers, script writers, producers, floor directors, editors and talent.
