Research Initiatives

USA CFITS is positioned to enhance the production of world class research work performed here at the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃ. The Center offers project management experience that can leverage the production capacity of our investigators.

SPERG: The System Protection and Exploitation Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group of faculty and students with computing, engineering and security focus. We are looking for stand-out graduate and undergraduate students who want to pursue research in the areas of system protection and exploitation such as software obfuscation, malware analysis and anomaly detection. (System Protection and Exploitation Research Group)

Digital Forensics: Our School of Computing has contributed to the body of knowledge in securing the integrity of information technology. We continue to expand our expertise in this area through continued research and recruitment.(Digital Forensics Research GroupMeeting Schedule

Voting Systems: USA CFITS enjoys perhaps the premiere cadre of world class investigators in this critical area of research. Electronic voting increases accessibility and exposure to security breaches, as everyone knows, yet the current precinct voting, voter registration and absentee voting processes are fraught with opportunities for fraud as well. USA SoC responded to this with a revolutionary risk assessment tool, accepted by the federal government.

Information Technology: Our institution has lead the way in refining and developing the body of knowledge now referred to as Information Technology. USA SoC was one of the first five universities to gain ABET certification for our IT curriculum. We remain the only true school of computing, with fully developed four year degree programs in CS, IS and IT in the state of Alabama. Information Technology Assurance Research Group.

Security: On April 26th we were notified that USA, through the School of Computing (SoC) and the Center for Forensics, Information Technology, and Security (CFITS), was selected jointly by the US National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. There are three active research groups; Security Research Group, Health Informatics Research Group, and the Software Protection and Exploitation Research Group.

Health Informatics: Representing another innovation in computing education, this planned multidisciplinary four year degree program integrates various concentrations from the College of Allied Health with our existing IT concentration in health information technology. The much needed program hopes to graduate its first class in 2014. USA CFITS is positioned to enhance the production of world class research work performed here at the University of ºÚÁÏÌìÌà Alabama. The Center offers project management experience that can leverage the production capacity of our investigators. Health Informatics Research Group.

USA School of Computing is a National CyberWatch Center Member: The ºÚÁÏÌìÌà is the only School of Computing in Alabama and is a nationally designated Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. They are also the only program that offers five degree programs within one School: Computer Science, Cyber Assurance, Health Informatics, Information Systems, and Information Technology. The School of Computing is supported by The ºÚÁÏÌìÌà Center for Forensics, Information Technology, and Security (CFITS). The center is dedicated to the collection and dissemination of information related to digital forensics and information technology assurance and security. The Center is positioned to enhance the production of world class research performed at the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃ. Research within the academic cadre and center focuses on cyber security and forensics, voting systems research, health informatics, software protection and exploitation, and information technology education.
