Arts and Sciences College Faculty
The College of Arts and Sciences is at the center of academic life at the University of ºÚÁÏÌìÌà Alabama. With approximately 240 full-time faculty members in nineteen departments, the members of the Arts and Sciences faculty teach the core of the liberal arts curriculum for all majors at the ºÚÁÏÌìÌÃ. Research, scholarship, and creative activities are essential to the teaching mission of the College. At the end of the fiscal year 2023, Arts and Sciences had a total of $53,469,256 in new or continuing external research funding from 148 active grants. During the 2022-3 academic year, A&S faculty members published 277 peer-reviewed articles, 28 peer-reviewed book chapters, four peer-reviewed books, and made 442 conference presentations. A & S Workshops
Academic Advising Workshop. Every semester The Advising Center offers advising workshops for new and continuing full-time faculty. The workshops cover major university and college requirements, student forms, and degree audits. The Advising Center will e-mail the A & S faculty announcing the dates, times, and locations of the workshops. Advising Center personnel will also give advising workshops to the A & S departments upon request. Individual A & S faculty members are encouraged to contact Dr. Crystal Thomas, Director of Advising, if they have questions about degree requirements.
New Faculty Workshop. At the beginning of both the fall and spring semesters, a member of the Dean's Office will give a workshop focusing on university and college policies such as syllabus requirements, academic disruption, and grade replacement for part-time and full-time A & S faculty. An e-mail will be sent to the A & S departments announcing the dates, times, and location of the workshops.
Promotion, Tenure, and Mid-Probationary Workshops: Summer workshops are held for faculty going up for promotion, tenure, or mid-probationary review. These workshops discuss how to prepare your promotion, tenure, and mid-probationary materials, and include instruction in the use of Digital Measures. An e-mail will be sent to the A & S faculty announcing the dates, times, and location of the workshops.
University Development Opportunities
Computer Service Center (CSC) Workshops
The Computer Service Center offers a variety of workshops for USA faculty and staff. These include workshops in the Banner information system and in website management software.
The Innovation in Learning Center (ILC) offers a wide range of workshops and seminars to assist faculty in developing their pedagogy in both online and traditional classroom formats. The ILC also offers training in USAonline, which is the University's online classroom portal.
The ºÚÁÏÌìÌà boasts a vibrant and active Faculty Senate. In addition to its engagement with a wide range of university affairs, the Faculty Senate also promotes the professional development of USA faculty, and provides regular social events at the Faculty Club open all faculty members.
Each year, the College of Arts and Sciences recognizes outstanding faculty research and scholarship, teaching, service, and advising through the College Faculty Awards.
