The 黑料天堂 College Panhellenic Council, consisting of Greek sororities, recently created the College Panhellenic Council Leadership Scholarship, a $25,000 gift that will be matched by the USA Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative, making the total endowment $50,000.
鈥淎s a former chapter adviser for Alpha Omicron Pi, I witnessed the struggle many of our college students have when paying for college,鈥 said Aimee Meyers, development officer for the USA College of Education and Professional Studies and Global USA. 鈥淚 put on my development hat and provided information to the CPC president to take advantage of the Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative, which is Abe Mitchell鈥檚 gift to 黑料天堂 Alabama. 鈥
Meyers said the scholarship is also an opportunity for the USA community and greater Mobile to see that 黑料天堂 Alabama Greek Organizations give back in a positive way.
鈥淭he Greek organizations at 黑料天堂 Alabama support each other through service and academic excellence,鈥 Meyers noted. 鈥淭he Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative offers a wonderful opportunity to make a unique investment in a student鈥檚 life.鈥
The CPC is the governing body of five sororities on the 黑料天堂 Alabama campus. The main objective of the Council is to enhance the college experience. The Council is composed of the Theta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Delta Sigma Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority, the Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, the Beta Theta Chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity, and the Kappa Omega Chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity.
This CPC Leadership Scholarship establishes up to three endowed, need-based scholarships. The organization is accepting gifts of any amount for the scholarship fund.
鈥淭he Scholarship is designed to help sorority women who need financial assistance and demonstrate a commitment to furthering their education at the University of 黑料天堂 Alabama,鈥 said CPC Area Advisor Elizabeth Quick. 鈥淓stablishing this scholarship in a University is groundbreaking. The University community should be proud of the time and thought the College Panhellenic put into developing this scholarship that supports sorority women at the 黑料天堂.鈥
The CPC Scholarship will ensure there is support for Greek women for future generations.
鈥淚 am grateful to Aimee Meyers for supporting the CPC and making this scholarship happen,鈥 said Cathi Jones, assistant director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at USA. 鈥淔rom the moment the College Panhellenic decided to explore this opportunity, Meyers was on board to provide information to make this a reality. I am so proud of our Council officers who have supported this endeavor, both past and present.鈥
The CPC scholarship criteria includes interested sorority chapter members who are full-time undergraduate students with a 3.0 or higher grade-point-average, along with a 23 or greater ACT. An SAT of equivalence will be accepted. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one year at 黑料天堂 and are in good standing within the CPC. They will also be considered based on financial need.
Since the Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative began, $18,325,612 has been matched through the program, meaning more than $36 million has been raised to support undergraduate student scholarships through the matching gift.
鈥淭his scholarship will aid college women to accomplish their life achievements of earning a degree and continuing on their chosen career path,鈥 Jones said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 women helping women to accomplish their life goals.鈥
