Student Spotlight: Peyton Rego

Peyton Rego

Hello! My name is Peyton Rego, and I am a sophomore finance and geography major. I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I am a Mitchell Scholar, as well as a Mitchell Ambassador, here at MCOB. I am currently also serving as a student assistant in the Dean’s Office. Outside of MCOB, I served as a student manager for the men’s basketball team as a freshman. I am also very involved in Campus Outreach, a Christian organization here on campus.

Growing up, I always thought that the University of Alabama would be the only college I was even going to consider. I did not even know ºÚÁÏÌìÌà existed until late into my sophomore year of high school. Once I really started to find out about ºÚÁÏÌìÌà I never looked back. I knew this was the place for me. There are so many things to do here on campus. You can work out at the state-of-the-art rec center, walk some of the nature trails, go to the student center and eat at one of the restaurants with your friends, and much more. I, personally, love taking walks around campus, especially in the evening. They really do work hard to keep the campus looking very nice and presentable. The new exercise trail is something I use quite frequently to stay in shape. And, if you think what ºÚÁÏÌìÌà has right now is not enough, they are constantly making new additions to the campus that are sure to make it better.

The amount of opportunities that MCOB presents for its students is great. There are various organizations, internships, events, and activities that students can be a part of and use to connect with the people around them. The faculty here care so much, and they will go out of their way to help you with any needs you have. Have a question? Just go into your professor’s office and ask him/her. They will be happy to put down whatever they are doing and get you an answer. From Dr. Wood to each and every professor, you will feel loved and appreciated. Every day that I walk into the Dean’s Office for work, I am greeted with a smile by each faculty member I encounter. It creates for an easy learning environment that promotes success. MCOB truly feels like a second home for me.

My post-graduation plans are still in the works, but I am taking the opportunity as of now to get involved in everything I can and gain valuable experience that will help better shape that decision. This summer, I am considering studying abroad in Germany. I have never been overseas before, so it will be a very new experience for me. I am very interested in getting involved with the Jaguar Investment Fund. I still have a few more classes to take before I can consider it, but the stock market is something I have always been interested in as well. While I am looking forward to planning for my future, I think it is most important that I take everything day by day. My path to success is continuing to work hard, getting involved, and trying not to become overwhelmed by it all. I’m confident that, if I can take care of those things, MCOB will provide me with the opportunities and education I need to achieve whatever I put my mind to in the future. I love my school, and I hope everyone gets the opportunity to have an experience as great as mine. Go Jags!
